A graduate of the École central Marseille, with a PhD in Acoustics from the université Pierre-et-Marie-Curie, Pauline has been passionate about music since her childhood (she studied the flute and the bass) and was naturally interested in research in musical acoustics. She carried out her doctoral thesis at IRCAM and worked for a year at McGill University in Montreal on the acoustic behavior of saxophone mouthpieces. When she returned to France in 2014, Pauline founded SYOS, a startup for 3D printed custom acoustic musical instruments. Using an algorithm, the instrument completed by a SYOS mouthpiece connects the musician’s vocabulary to describe their dream sound and the geometry of the mouthpiece that makes this sound possible. Available since 2016, the mouthpieces have already been used by jazz, rock, electro stars.
